Over 20 years later, when Mazda North America and MazdaSpeed Motorsports decided to run two Mazda Miata teams in the 25 Hours of Thunderhill with drivers from Road & Track and Automobile magazines, Rick was their choice to run the operation for them twice, once in 2003 and again in 2005.

Today, literally every member of the P R Motorsports team brings with them some level of active participation or experience in some form of racing or performance driving (including autocross), and we continue to use our high performance car building, tuning and suspension experience to help a wide range of customers get the most out of their own street performance cars or full-on race cars. We have developed well-established relationships with the Bay Area’s top builders and chassis setup experts as well as some of the top providers of performance products in the country. We offer all levels of custom installations, featuring engine builds from Rebello Racing, supercharger packages from Fast Forward Superchargers, turbos and other high performance parts from Flyin’ Miata, and a broad assortment of goodies from Racing Beat. For chassis set-up our top choice remains Roger Kraus Racing, the long-time favorite of most San Francisco bay area racers.

Here’s a brief summary of the toys we like and where we get them from:

• Engine mods: Rebello Racing. Everything from mild rebuilds to full-on fire-breathing race engines. Rick’s street Miata has a Rebello engine (ask to see it) and our full-on endurance race car will have one as well. The best.

• Suspension packages: Flyin’ Miata springs with Tokico Illumina shocks are a great entry level package that give your car awesome handling (and a ride quality better than stock!). The next level up (also on Rick’s car) is the Ground Control coilover package with the same Tokico Illuminas. The absolute pinnacle of handling performance can be had with either the JIC Magic package – or what has become the benchmark for high performance handling in several motorsports fields – Ohlins!

• Exhaust: We’ve really come to like the Racing Beat products for most street and high performance cat-back exhaust applications. They are beautifully constructed from 304 stainless, so they fit perfectly, look gorgeous, sound great and will last (and are California legal for sound levels). And did I mention that Racing Beat does their homework? They also improve power! For headers, we like the Jackson Racing header (good power, smog legal). While we also like the Racing Beat header, unfortunately it still isn’t legal for the street, but is the top choice for track applications.
